To the Shipibo-Konibo, Kené—meaning design—is far more than a pattern. It is the cosmos made visible: a sacred calligraphy and spiritual map of the Amazon.
Peru recognised Kené as Intangible Cultural Heritage in 2008. It remains a living tradition that safeguards our people’s spiritual landscape.

Vision before creation
This art form belongs to women and is passed through generations. Mastery begins with spirit: Rao plants awaken the senses and open thought and imagination to the designs seen in dreams.

A vessel for healing
Kené takes form in natural dyes, embroidery, carving, ceramics, textiles, wood, and beadwork. The physical object is a vessel for designs revealed through plant knowledge and healing practice.
